Geithner Monitoring CIT Group Developments

By Maya Jackson Randall

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday said he is monitoring CIT Group Inc. developments.

“We’re watching closely developments in those markets,” the secretary told reporters in London, where he met with key leaders on the financial crisis. “We have a significant interest generally in trying to make sure the financial system gets through this, adjusts where it needs to adjust and emerges stronger.”

“We’ll be watching closely developments in that area,” he said.

The secretary went on to add that he’s “actually pretty confident” that “we have the authority and the ability to make sensible choices” on the matter.

Officials at CIT Group, a lender to small and midsize businesses, tried to work out a plan to calm markets and convince customers and investors that it can work its way out of a liquidity crunch amid a concern that hundreds of small and midsize business customers may rush to withdraw funds or draw down credit lines. CIT officials met over the weekend with members of Congress, government officials and regulators.

Amanda Rodrigues Gatti is in custody

Arturo Gatti’s wife Amanda Rodrigues Gatti is in custody! Arturo’s wife Amanda Rodrigues Gatti is in custody for her husband’s death in Porto de Galinhas, Brasil following new shocking revelations. Arturo Gatti was in an apartment Porto de Galinhas, Brazil celebrating his second honeymoon with Amanda Rodrigues Gatti, 23, and their child. But as broke yesterday on LALATE, Gatti was found dead shortly after 6 am. Immediately investigators suspected foul play - Gatti was found dead without a gun shot or stab wound, but with blood on his neck and back of his head as he laid in his underwear.

Gatti was 37.

Now Sunday morning Brazilian police confirm they have Arturo’s wife Amanda Rodrigues Gatti in custody. Why? They claim Amanda gave contradicting testimony when questioned by police. Moreover, authorities tell press that Gatti was strangled with a purse.

The Boxing Scene.com is reporting that a former boxer told Brazilian reporters that Gatti and his wife were having some sort of problems and were about to separate.

Other reports state that Gatti and Rodrigues were apparently involved in a heated argument at a Brazilian bar earlier on Friday evening.

Still other reports state that the two were extremely jealous of each other and that he constantly complained of her clothing when she traveled to Brazil. I guess it begs the question, then why vacation in Brazil?

Gatti was scheduled to testify next week in New York in a suit filed by former opponent Joey Gamache against the New York State Athletic Commission. The suit claimed negligence by the Commission during the 2000 fight’s weigh-in. The lawsuit asserts Gatti was 19 pounds over the 141 pound limit.
